Spelling Trail Support

First check the easy things: the device volume is up, and in the app’s menu, Sounds, Word Pronunciation is not set to None.

If the app shows “Words can’t be read aloud”, the device needs an English voice:

• Android: tap Fix It on that note and answer the grown-ups question. It opens the device’s text-to-speech settings, where you can install an English voice. If it cannot open them, look for “Text-to-speech” under Accessibility or General management in the device’s Settings.
• iPhone and iPad: open Settings, then Accessibility, then Spoken Content, then Voices, then English, and download a voice.

Come back to Spelling Trail afterwards. The note goes away by itself once a voice is ready.

• Android: Spelling Trail checks with Google Play each time it opens, so the full version comes back on its own after a reinstall or on a new device. Make sure the device is signed in to Google Play with the account that made the purchase, then close and reopen the app.
• iPhone and iPad: sign in to the App Store with the Apple Account that made the purchase. In Spelling Trail, tap Upgrade on the home screen, then Restore Purchase.

Purchases are made through the store, so the store handles refunds. We never see your payment details. See Google Play’s refund help or Apple’s refund help.

Open Spelling Trail on both devices. On each one, go to the menu, Settings, then Move to Another Device, and answer the grown-ups question. The old device shows your child as a code on its screen, and you take a photo of it with the new device. Badges, stickers and progress all come across. Nothing is sent over the internet.

The full version does not travel with the child. Unlock it on the new device as described above, at no extra cost.

Lay the page flat in good light and fit the whole list in the photo. Printed lists read most reliably. After a scan, Spelling Trail shows the words it found so you can choose which to add, and you can always type in a missed word yourself. Scanning is part of the full version.

• One child: in the menu, open My Profiles and delete that child’s profile.
• Everything on Android: uninstall the app, or go to Settings, Apps, choose the app, then Storage, Clear storage.
• Everything on iPhone and iPad: touch and hold the Spelling Trail icon, then Remove App, then Delete App.

Progress lives only on your device, so we cannot recover it for you. A device backup may include it.
